UN agencies and countries unite against antimicrobial resistance

22 NOVEMBER 2017 - Over 100 country representatives and experts from the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), the World Organization for Animal Health (OIE) and WHO met in Geneva, Switzerland to discuss a future Global Framework for Development & Stewardship to Combat Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) on 9-10 November.

“While some antibiotics should be used in a more restrictive way, affordable access to quality essential medicines, vaccines, as well as diagnostics also needs to be increased,” said Dr Suzanne Hill, Director of Essential Medicines and Health Products at WHO. “That is why more work needs to be done on developing stewardship policies taking into account the WHO Essential Medicines List.”
